Dave Florendo
(Class of 1968)
Dave Florendo’s commute from the Inwood neighborhood at the northern tip of Manhattan to Brooklyn Tech was a long one. The Tech football team was grateful that he made the trip. When coach Adam Cirillo saw Dave’s awesome talent he immediately brought him up to the varsity as a freshman. Here Dave started at halfback for 3 seasons. In his senior year he was named co-captain and led the 1967 squad to the Brooklyn Championship. Dave was named first team all-city by both the Daily News and the New York Post.
From Tech Dave moved on to the City College of New York where he received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and political science. Upon graduating CCNY he was accepted to Harvard Law School. He graduated from Harvard, passed the bar exam and was admitted to the New York State Bar. He accepted a position with Winston and Strawn LLP where he practiced law for several years and became a partner in 1999. Dave then moved on to Philip Morris as an assistant general counsel handling high profile litigation cases.
Dave Florendo was a faithful husband and caring father who had a love for the simple pleasures in life. He enjoyed his time at Camp Walden in Diamond Point New York where he was the lead singer in a local band. He enjoyed playing hockey at the Chelsea Piers as well as golfing and biking. Sadly, Dave Florendo passed away in November of 2003 at the young age of 53. He is survived by his wife Noemi, his daughter Jessica Florendo and his brothers Kenneth and Norbert-a 1965 Tech graduate. When asked how he prepared a game plan against Tech an opposing coach stated “our game plan was to let the quarterback run. We wanted to be sure Florendo didn’t get the ball wide. He could kill you.”
